The Davis Reading Room with Jenny Luxa
About
How Jenny Helps
At the Davis Reading Room, I offer personalized, one-on-one Orton-Gillingham-based tutoring for struggling readers in grades kindergarten through 6th grade.
We start with a diagnostic assessment, and then I create a custom designed lesson plan optimized to meet your child’s unique needs based on their individual age level reading challenges. When creating custom tutoring plans, I focus on strengthening structured literacy skills based on the science of reading. This includes phonemic awareness, fluency, decoding, reading comprehension, and of course, spelling.
My multi-sensory approach as a certified instructor in the Orton Gillingham approach engages your child through kinesthetic, auditory, and visual methods, which helps dyslexic and non-dyslexic readers alike to build confidence and achieve success in writing and reading.
I provide you with regular updates on the progress of your child, keeping you fully informed about your child's path to academic success.

What is Orton Gillingham?
The Orton Gillingham method is a foundational, cumulative approach that teaches common patterns in the English language as students are ready to learn them. As concepts are mastered, new ones are added. The student sets the pace, which boosts feelings of success and limits frustrations.
This visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile approach reinforces learning, creating new pathways in students' brains to build automaticity with reading (decoding), spelling (encoding) and writing. Originally designed for readers with dyslexia, the Orton Gillingham approach reinforces The Five Pillars of Literacy, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension for all readers experiencing age level reading challenges.

About Jenny Luxa
Hi! I'm a certified Orton Gillingham instructor passionate about helping children become confident and successful readers, and I have worked for seven years at the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) where I worked with students who needed extra support in developing strong literacy skills, including kids with dyslexia. As an independent tutor, I have had the joy of tutoring students from Davis, Dixon, Winters, Woodland, and the surrounding communities of Yolo and Solano County in Northern California.
My reading instruction techniques are grounded in the Science of Reading, and include the Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words (SIPPS) program, the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) Foundations curriculum, and being a certified Orton-Gillingham instructor. My broad tutoring background helps enable me to provide individualized, systematic, explicit, and multi-sensory instruction designed to help students with dyslexia and other reading challenges build a strong foundation in reading and spelling.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a child experience the moment when reading finally clicks, when frustration gives way to confidence and they begin to believe, "I can do this." Helping children discover the joy and confidence that comes from becoming a successful reader is truly the best job in the world, and I would be honored to be part of your child's reading journey.
